About us

Homemade Recipes for Everyday Dinners, Chicken, Desserts and Breakfast

Recipes by Sophie is a collection of home-style recipes for people who cook on ordinary weeknights and want clear steps, realistic timings and ingredients from a regular grocery store. The recipes are grouped into four categories, and each one is written with a standard home kitchen in mind: one oven, a few pans and no special equipment.

What You Will Find, Category by Category

Dinner

The largest section is Dinner, covering skillet meals, pasta, stews, casseroles and vegetable-based mains. Examples include Spaghetti Squash Skillet with Lean Beef, Irish Beef Stew with Mashed Potatoes and Lemon Ricotta Pasta. If you are looking for a specific ingredient, the themed collections on beef stew meat, ground beef and ricotta group related dinners in one place.

Chicken

The Chicken category is for the days when chicken is already in the fridge and you want something other than the usual. Pan Seared Garlic Chicken, Boneless Garlic Chicken Thighs and Creamy Garlic Chicken Penne are typical of the style: simple seasoning, a sauce or crust, and a method that suits a weeknight.

Desserts

In Desserts you will find cakes, bars, no-bake treats and ricotta-based sweets, with a special focus on beginner-friendly baking. Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake, Homemade Ice Cream Cake and the Father's Day dessert collection are good starting points when you need something for a gathering.

Breakfast

The Breakfast section is still small and growing. It leans toward quick mornings and dishes that can be prepared ahead, and savory ricotta recipes such as Savory Ricotta Pancakes and Savory Ricotta Toast also suit a late breakfast or brunch.

How the Recipes Are Prepared

Each recipe is developed and edited so that the steps are clear, the times and temperatures are realistic, and the ingredient list comes with sensible substitutions where they make sense. Food-safety notes are included where they matter, for example for poultry, ground meat and make-ahead dishes. Home kitchens differ, so treat the times as a guide, use your own judgement, and check the ingredient labels if you cook for someone with an allergy.

Recipes are written by four author profiles, each with a focus area: everyday family cooking, chicken and comfort food, homemade desserts and baking, and make-ahead breakfasts. You can read more on the About Us page.

Practical Tips for Cooking From Any Recipe

  • Read the whole recipe first. Check the ingredient list and the steps before you start, so you know when the oven needs to be hot and what must rest or chill.
  • Use a thermometer for doneness. Cook chicken to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and ground beef to 160°F (71°C). Color alone is not a reliable guide.
  • Substitute with care. Swapping chicken breast for thighs, or one hard cheese for another, usually works. Replacing flour, sugar or leavening in baking can change the result, so keep those as written.
  • Adjust time to your equipment. Ovens run hot or cool, and pan size changes how fast things brown. Start checking a few minutes before the stated time.
  • Store promptly. Refrigerate leftovers within two hours of cooking, keep them in shallow covered containers, and reheat until steaming hot. Most cooked dishes keep three to four days in the fridge.

Finding a Recipe Quickly

Browse by category above, or start from a themed collection if you have a particular ingredient to use up: ricotta, beef stew meat, ground beef, creamy garlic chicken, or Father's Day desserts. Each recipe page lists ingredients, steps and timing, and you can leave a rating or comment to share how it worked in your kitchen.
