Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 28, 2026

Recipes by Sophie respects your privacy and collects only the information it needs to run recipesbysophie.com.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you read recipes, rate or comment on them, or write to us, how we use it, how long we keep it, and what choices you have. It is based on the tools the website actually uses today.

By using Recipes by Sophie, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the website.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Contact form: your name, email address and the message you write. We use this information only to reply to you.
  • Ratings and comments form: your name and the text you submit. Ratings and comments may be publicly visible, so please do not include private or sensitive details.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Server logs: like most websites, our web server records your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We use these logs for security and troubleshooting.
  • Visit statistics: we measure visits with a first-party system that runs on our own server and records the page viewed and the referrer (the site that sent you to us).
  • Cloudflare: we use Cloudflare for content delivery and security. Cloudflare may set technical cookies that help deliver pages and protect the website from abuse.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To reply to messages sent through the contact form.
  • To publish and moderate ratings and comments.
  • To keep the website secure, detect spam and abuse, and fix technical problems.
  • To understand which recipes and categories readers visit, so we can improve the website.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your name, email address or message content.

3. Cookies

Cloudflare may set technical cookies that are needed to deliver the website securely and reliably. Our own visit statistics are collected on our server and do not depend on advertising cookies. You can manage or delete cookies in your browser settings; blocking technical cookies may affect how some pages load.

4. Visit Statistics

Our visit statistics are first-party: they are stored on our own server, not handed to an outside analytics company. They record which page was viewed and the referrer. Raw visit records are kept for 7 days, after which only daily totals remain.

5. Advertising

If advertising is shown on the website, it may be provided by Google or its partners, which can use cookies to show and measure ads. You can manage personalized advertising at adssettings.google.com, and you can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Visitors in the EEA and the UK: where the law requires your consent for advertising or non-essential cookies, we ask for it before such cookies are used, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time through your browser settings or by contacting us.

6. Social Profiles and Third-Party Links

The website links to our Pinterest profile. When you follow that link you leave Recipes by Sophie, and Pinterest's own privacy policy applies to what happens there. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites.

7. Ratings and Comments

The name and text you enter in the ratings and comments form are stored so they can be shown with the recipe. We may edit or remove comments that are spam, abusive or off-topic. If you want a comment you wrote to be removed, contact us and tell us which recipe page it is on.

8. Who Receives Your Information

We do not share your information with anyone except the providers needed to operate the website. Cloudflare processes website traffic for delivery and security. Where advertising is shown, Google or its partners may process data as described in section 5. We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the website and its visitors from abuse.

9. Data Retention

  • Raw visit records: kept for 7 days, then replaced by daily totals that do not identify individual visitors.
  • Contact messages: kept for as long as needed to answer you and handle any follow-up, then deleted.
  • Ratings and comments: kept while the related recipe is published, unless you ask for removal.
  • Server logs: kept only for as long as needed for security and troubleshooting.

10. Your Rights Under the GDPR (EEA and UK)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate data or delete your data.
  • Ask us to restrict or object to certain processing.
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

We process data on these legal grounds: your consent (for example, non-essential cookies), our legitimate interest in running and securing the website, and compliance with legal obligations. To exercise a right, contact us.

11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, to request deletion or correction of your personal information, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and not to be treated differently for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information for money. To opt out of personalized advertising, use the Google links in section 5. To make a request, contact us; we may need to verify your identity before acting on it.

12. Children's Privacy

Recipes by Sophie is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Security

We use reasonable technical measures, including Cloudflare's security services, to protect the website and the information it handles. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the website or the law changes. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised. Continued use of the website after an update means you accept the revised policy.

15. Contact
