Ingredients:
- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup (150g) white granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup (165g) packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
- 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
- 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup (60g) chopped walnuts
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is pale and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and emulsified.
- Sift in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix on low speed just until the flour streaks disappear; do not overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts using a rubber spatula.
- Press the dough evenly into the prepared 9x13 inch pan.
- Bake for 32 minutes until the edges are deep golden brown and the center remains slightly soft.
- Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing into 16 squares.
