Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) white granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (165g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup (60g) chopped walnuts

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is pale and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and emulsified.
  4. Sift in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix on low speed just until the flour streaks disappear; do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts using a rubber spatula.
  6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared 9x13 inch pan.
  7. Bake for 32 minutes until the edges are deep golden brown and the center remains slightly soft.
  8. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing into 16 squares.
